Two patents have been issued with respect to the technology incorporated into the AeRP. The company has been granted exclusive rights and licenses to utilize the patents by the inventor, Dr. John Doorish. Patent #5,836,996 was issued on November 17, 1998 granting all claims with respect to the construction of an artificial retina including the light sensor, an emitter element, a detector element and a coupling device to the natural retina. Patent #5,865,839 (continuation in part of patent #5,836,996) was issued in February 1999 granting all claims with respect to the specific construction of the AeRP.
