Dr. John F. Doorish, President / Founder / Director, has dedicated virtually all of his professional time to development of the Second Sight Device for the past eight years. From 1994-1995, Dr. Doorish served as an Adjunct Professor of Physics at Wagner College. Dr. Doorish has a BS in physics (St. John's University, 1980) and MS (1985) in Applied Physics and a Doctorate in Mathematics from Columbia University in 1988. His doctorate work was in the area of Mathematics (and his thesis was in the area of Theoretical Astrophysics). Dr. Doorish also conducted post-doctorate research at Princeton University in geophysics (seismology and education).

Dr. Doorish has experience in biology and organic chemistry as well as engineering. Besides, the basics of the visual system are pure physics and are modeled according to the laws of physics and mathematics. Dr. Doorish is an expert in mathematical modeling. The design work for any artificial retina device is an interdisciplinary construct, which is based on engineering principles of physics. The development of an artificial retina requires information from various fields such as physics, mathematics and engineering, as well as chemistry, physiology and, naturally, ophthalmology.
